After five minutes, you leave holding your ears and cursing the theater for its poor judgment. Turning newspaper pages, running water in the kitchen sink, your child placing dishes and silverware on the table – all are intolerable to your ears. A baby cries or a truck screeches its brakes to a halt and the sound is excruciating. What …

I had a neighbor with Hyperacusis once. An old retired nurse. She was a pain for most of us in that stair house. When she heard something, she called the police, and the police got fed up with her quite soon. One day, she was just gone… I think she divorced with her husband.

Amazing how listening to this makes me relax too. I don’t remember a life without tinnitus. It’s very hard to concentrate and not get depressed. Cheers!

yes you have to look after your ears, once the damage is done thats it, i never thought i had my guitar up loud enough to do any damage, how wrong i was :(

i agree, i have tinnitus and have been told the extreme pain i have when i hear any noise above talking level could be hyperacusis, iv seen 2 ent doctors and neither of them had any idea why i was in pain, none mentioned this condition and told me to keep useing my ear plugs, it was someone at the british tinnitus website that told me about hyperacusis and after reading up about it the syptoms are exactly the same, iv had it for about a year now, and iv no idea what to do about it?

It is amazing that I only found out about this four years ago when I started college. I would hear this sound ever since I could remember I always thought it was normal. I still hear it, sometimes I think some one is about to take a picture.

ahh are you aiming to try that sound therapy experiment? where you tone down the sound just below the sound of your own, listen to it for about 30mins and it stops it for a few days?

    hyperacusis is different than tinitus.

    hyperacusis is being hyper acute.

everyone seems to be calling it the same.

this is bad because we who acually have real hyperacusis will be overlooked.

you don’t get reminded of a scar every single moment of the day. Espacially when it’s underneath your clothing. Tinnitus is making my live harder every day. But at least, i’m glad you can live with it.

  15. dimitri862 says:

it works for 1 weeks at max. After a few weeks, the pink noise troubles even more.
I turned it all of and tried to get some rest. But i didn’t rest ever since :( when will i ever rest again? take a guess… when i’m dead.

  23. formaset says:

HYPERACUSIS: These individuals have a collapsed tolerance to normal environmental sound. The term commonly used to describe this condition is ‘hyperacusis’. Hyperacusis can come on gradually or occur suddenly where the patient finds themself in a state of crisis. Patients who have a collapsed tolerance to sound need to have their Loudness Discomfort Levels (LDL’s) established by a hearing healthcare professional. To find out more, go ONLINE
