Tinnitus can last for years. My mother has had it for almost 20 years now. I do not know if it is temporary though. Ask your doctor and you can probably find more out about it.:)

I’ve had tinnitus in my ears as long as I can remember, so that’s at least 20 years.
I remember when I was a kid it would drive me CRAZY (some people commit suicide because it bothers them so much), now I’ve learned to tune it out and not pay attention to it.
Sometimes when I’m bored I’ll focus on it and listen to the different tones and ringing.

High doses of aspirin will cause ringing in the ears if it’s ringing.
Tinnitus is a noise in the ears, such as ringing, buzzing, roaring, or clicking. It is usually subjective in type. Most classifications stress distinctions between vibratory and nonvibratory types. Subjective tinnitus the usual type of tinnitus, in which the sound cannot be heard by an examiner or measured by objective instruments.
Vibratory tinnitus tinnitus caused by transmission to the cochlea of vibrations from adjacent tissues or organs, most often from blood in vascular malformations. Occasionally the vibrations are loud enough to be heard by an examiner.
Nonvibratory tinnitus tinnitus can be produced by biochemical changes in the nerve mechanism of hearing.

How long have you had it? Did it come on suddenly? Did it come on after a head injury, cold, etc.?

Is it unilateral (only on one side) or bilateral (both ears)? Does it interfere with your daily activities or sleep?

Tinnitus can be caused by a number of things such as hearing loss, exposure to loud noise (loud machinery, concerts, etc.), certain medications, excess ear wax, sinus infection, and more. If you are worried, you should visit and ENT and an Audiologist to get a check up and a baseline hearing test. They can monitor your hearing every year or two thereafter if everything turns out to be normal.

Try to visit the American Tinnitus Association website at http://www.ata.org/

    Good luck!

Its common for adults who were premature or small as babies to develop tinnitus and related hearing loss.

My Mum has it and has had it for going on 30 years. She uses a white noise genarator if it is really getting her down

It is a lot more common than you might think! If it continues, try taking zinc and niacin. These vitamins and minerals have been shown to be pretty effective in treating tinnitus.

Also, reduce the amount of stress in your life. Stress is a huge factor in causing tinnitus.

If you had chronic ear infections as a child, the tinnitus may just be a lingering affect. In that case, it can be treated, but you will have to do a few techniques to wipe it out.
